Kennedy Moronge

Kennedy Moronge is from Nairobi, Kenya and is a junior at Winona State University who is majoring in computer sciences.

Kennedy grew up in urban Nairobi, but spent most of his education at a boarding school in rural Kenya. Kenya’s main language is English, so he did not have any language barrier issues, which most international students suffer from. He also speaks a fair amount of Swahili.

He applied to a few different colleges, but eventually settled on Winona State. Kennedy wasn’t sure what to expect but he said, “Sometimes you have to take a leap of faith.”

Kennedy adjusted very well to life in the United States. “Everyday comes with something different,” he said. He made many friends, from many different places. He did suffer from a few minor cultural issues though. Kennedy said he had issues adjusting to the currency and the high prices for goods in the U.S. and also the weather. “Its too humid,” Kennedy said about Minnesota, and he found the winters too cold.

Kennedy would like to be a systems analysis or a computer informational assistants manager. He would like to work in the United States but he would like to work in Kenya though despite their lower economy. He said that there is, “room for development,” in Kenya, and he would like to contribute his computer skills to his home nation.
